Traveling Off the Beaten Path in New York

While there are many famous travel destinations in New York, there are many more destinations that, while not as famous as perhaps the Bronx Zoo, are just as worthwhile to visit and can provide for an amazing experience. These destinations can easily be found by a simple search on the Internet for specific interests that the tourist holds, such as wine, carousels, antiques, or historical sites, as well as more rustic attractions that can be found in one of New York's many state parks.

New York is home to many wineries that have joined to form wine trails. Wine trails allow those who enjoy wine to stay at local hotels while touring the local wineries, enabling them to enjoy a wide variety of wines and the wine making process, if they visit the area at the correct time of year. However, tours of wineries are available year round in many cases. The most popular time of year to visit New York's wineries is during the spring and fall.

New York is home to many state parks that offer a host of natural attractions. These attractions include a wide variety of camping options, from camping sites that offer some of the comforts of home (bathroom facilities, concession stands, etc.) to parks that are large and offer a more rustic camping experience. Most state parks can be enjoyed year round with few restrictions and, depending upon the season, a variety of possible activities, from swimming to skiing.
